Film Noir (Last Poem of 2020)

At midnight  the canal shimmers in the wind
It is snowing somewhere but not here
The shops are all closed on this side 

Of the world
Even so in the towering buildings (beside us)
Shadows roam from room to room
While way up above  behind a lone window

Someone watches an old movie on TV
Starring Peter Lorre and Lauren Bacall
A murder mystery perhaps or a thriller
Full of spies  double agents and ghosts
It is snowing somewhere but not here
So we move on 

(Our dreams stop  when and if we ever wake)
